Women's participation in public affairs highlighted

Manama, Oct. 23 (BNA): A lecture on the Bahraini women's right to participate in public affairs in conformity with the national constitution and legislation was given by a member of Legislation, Legal Opinion (Fatwa) Authority (LLOA), Legal Advisor Jawahir Adil Abdulrahman.
The lecture comes as part of the programme of the Bahraini Women's Day 2016 themed Celebrating Women in Legal, Judicial Fields.
The LLOA Legal Advisor said the Royal Order 59/2014 on defining the regulations for the appointment of Shura Council members complements the achievements accomplished by Bahraini women in terms of their participation in the public affairs.
She elaborated that under the constitutional amendments issued in 2012, HM the King ordered that women should have a proper representation in Shura Council in line with the regulations for the appointment of Shura members.
She concluded that the laws regulating political rights stipulate on equality and non-discrimination between men and women in the parliamentary and municipal elections.
She stressed that electing Bahraini women to parliamentary and municipal councils is a remarkable success, noting that women of many countries don't have the right to become parliamentary members through elections, but through appointment or the application of quota system.
