Working trip of Prime Minister to Almaty

Almaty, June 01, 2009 (Khabar) - Almaty is preparing to host the Asian Games at full speed. Work is being carried out at the sports facilities, the future underground railway and also at construction sites of new hospitals, traffic interchanges and residential buildings. The prime minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov has visited them. 27 million tenge have been allocated from the state treasury for the construction of facilities for the Asiad and the subway. The second stage of construction will start as early as 2012. The underground will be acted on two directions, towards the railway station Almaty-1 and the Kalkaman district. The total length of the two sections comes to about 17 kilometres. A new emergency aid hospital is also being planned to commission by the end of this year. The hospital is located in the territory with the total area of more than 1, 5 hectares and designed for 350 beds. There will be 7 departments and 10 surgical wings at the hospital. Only 2 years are left before the Winter Asian Games and everything must be commissioned on the due date. The Baluan Sholak Sports Palaca will open among the first facilities in 2010. After the re-construction it will be able to host up to 5 thousand viewers. A complex of downhill ski jumps which is located in the southern part of Almaty is being planned to be put into operation by the beginning of the Asian Games. It is being suggested that the closing ceremony of Asian games will be held at the world-famous “Medeo” outdoor speed skating rink. The stadium is designed for 8, 5 thousand viewers. The project provided for reconstructing all the stands, complete replacement of engineering and technical networks, colour scheme of the fronts and many other things. The total length of ski jumps is planned to be increased two times at the “Shymbulak” ski resort. The busiest skiing areas will be widened. Artificial snow making machines will be installed at Alpine skiing tracks and ropes of cableways will be renewed.

- Today I have watched reconstruction of objects of Asian Games and objects connected with further development of Almaty city: subway, ski jump, “Medeu”, “Shymbulak” etc. I would like to say today’s tempo of work makes me optimistic and I think all the instructions of the head of the state that were set up on April 9, will be realized. We have resources and companies and we see construction and mobilization is carried out everywhere.

It is being expected that over 1000 athletes and twice as much guests will arrive for the Asian games and twice more guests. Renewed “Medeu” and “Shymbulak” will become surprise for Almaty residents as they look like world resorts soon.
