Yelebekov and Kurmangaliyev memorial evening in Astana
Astana, October 31, 2009 (Khabar) - A memorial evening devoted to the outstanding Kazakh singers Zhusupbek Yelebekov and Garifolla Kurmangaliyev has been held in Astana.
The talented theatre actor and performer Zhusupbek Yelebekov became famous as a performer of folk songs to begin with. He also created a number of memorable characters in the classical works of Kazakh drama as an actor, such as “Yenlik-Kebek”, “Kyz Zhibek”, “Sary”, and “Aiman Sholpan”. Garifolla Kurmangaliyev is also referred to as a folk hero today. He was the only representative and keeper of the ancient vocal and instrumental tradition of West Kazakhstan over the course of many decades. He sang more than 20 parts on the opera stage.
