Yemeni Student Remanded for Snatch Thief's Death

PETALING JAYA (Selangor), July 31 (Bernama) -- A Yemeni university student who allegedly knocked down a man believed to have snatched his bag at a restaurant at Seri Kembangan, Serdang in the state of Selangor Sunday, has been remanded for seven days. Magistrate’s Court assistant registrar Mazrah Mohamed issued the remand order effective Monday till Aug 6, which was applied by police under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, to facilitate investigations under Section 304 of the Penal Code. Prior to the 3.30 am incident, the student was having a drink at the restaurant when the victim aged 25, allegedly snatched his bag before fleeing. The student got into a car and tailed the victim who was riding a motorcycle, for three kilometres before allegedly knocking him down from behind at the traffic light junction. Serdang District Police chief ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias in a media statement Monday said the victim later succumbed to fatal head injuries. “The victim also had three previous convictions for drug misuse and criminal intimidation,” he said. -- BERNAMA
