Youths from Mekong River basin countries visit Thailand

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) -- A group of 66 youths from Lanchang-Mekong Youth Friendship Programme from 6 countries are currently paying a visit to Thailand to learn about Thai food and Muay Thai. The youth group, scheduled to be in Thailand from March 17-21, has paid a courtesy call to the Permanent Secretary of Social Development and Human Security, Maitri Inthusut. Mr Maitri said Thailand's Office of National Youth Promotion and Coordination Committee has joined hands with the Youths Federation of China to initiate the project in 2001 in line with the then current government's policy to create regional security. He said this is already the 11th Lanchang-Mekhong Youth Friendship Programme, which comprises of 66 youths from the 6 Mae Khong River basin countries of Thailand, China, Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar. The aim of the programme is for the youths to have the opportunity to exchange experiences, ideas, and knowledge to create networks and benefit for every country in the Mekong River basin. After their meeting with Mr Maitri, the youths are scheduled to learn about Thai cultures and tradition, including learning how to make Thai desserts, learn Thai kick boxing, and Thai traditional dancing before going their trip at a TV station to learn about broadcasting in Thailand.
