German FM From Erbil: German Will Continue To Support The Iraqi Security Forces
Baghdad / NINA /- German Foreign Minister Analina Berbock confirmed today, Wednesday, that her country will continue to support the Iraqi security forces in order to defend itself, noting the importance of coordination between Erbil and Baghdad in this field.
Berbock said in a joint press conference with the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, that her country will continue to support the Peshmerga forces, pointing out that the Kurdistan region embodies a safe haven for the displaced.
The German Foreign Minister warned that the threat of ISIS has not ended yet, noting the necessity of coordinating between the Peshmerga forces with the Iraqi army in order to ensure security and stability.
She praised the position of the Kurdistan Region regarding the displaced, pointing out that there are thousands of displaced persons and refugees in the Kurdistan Region.
The minister stressed the need to implement the provisions of the Sinjar Agreement to solve problems and return the Yazidis to their areas.
The German Foreign Minister stated that during her meetings with officials in Baghdad and the Kurdistan region, she touched on the issue of energy and climate change, stressing the need for coordination between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil in the field of energy, and that her country would provide support and assistance to the Kurdistan region in the field of agriculture and digital technology.
Yesterday, Tuesday, German Foreign Minister Analina Berbock arrived in the capital, Baghdad, on an official three-day visit. She met with Prime Minister Mohamed Al-Sudani and his deputy, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
At the conclusion of Al-Sudani's meeting with Berbock, Iraq signed three contracts with the German energy company Siemens, as part of the projects included in the memorandum of cooperation between the two sides, which includes rehabilitation and comprehensive service work for (Kirkuk, Al-Rasheed, and Al-Sadr gas stations) to produce electric power.
While Fuad Hussein mentioned in a joint press conference with Berbock that they discussed important issues, including the issue of immigrants who are illegally in Germany and ways to solve it./ End
