LANGKAWI (Kedah, Malaysia), May 25 (Bernama) -- Global Turbine Asia Sdn Bhd (GTA) on Wednesday inked a letter of agreement (LOA) with engine maker Europrop International (EPI) to provide support for 19 units of the TP400-D6 engine used by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
GTA chairman Nonee Ashirin Mohd Radzi said through the three-year LOA, the company would be officially authorised to handle maintenance for EPI, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the TP400-D6 engines that power the A400M Atlas transport aircraft.
“This is proof of Malaysia's potential in the aerospace industry because it is the first agreement for the TP400-D6 engine outside of Europe.
“It (the contract) also enables GTA to carry out Level 1 and Level 2 (on-base) maintenance on the TP400-D6 engines, the highest levels attainable outside an OEM workshop,” she told Bernama at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (LIMA 2023) show here Wednesday.
She said with the contract, GTA was gaining more ground as a regional centre of excellence for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and would further accelerate the growth of the country’s aerospace industry.
“This basically supports and builds up the confidence in Malaysia as a major player in the aerospace industry,” she added.
Meanwhile, in a statement, GTA chief executive officer Eduardo Jimenez said the signing of the LOA with EPI reflected its support for the Malaysian Aerospace Development Plan 2030 which embodies the wishes of every local industry player to ensure continued growth in the aerospace industry.
Established in 2010, GTA is a provider of MRO services for military and civil engines in Asia-Pacific.
As a joint venture with France’s Safran Helicopter Engines, it aims to become the local champion leading the industry in rotor wing engines and provide dedicated support to Safran customers in Malaysia.
