Indonesia's national narcotics agency destroys 1.1 tons of drugs

JAKARTA, March 28 (Bernama) -- Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has destroyed 1.1 tons of drugs which was seized in four operations around Feb14 to 25.

Deputy for BNN Eradication Brig Gen Pol I Wayan Sugiri said a total of 757,763 kilogrammes of cannabis and 356,622.10 kilogrammes of syabu were destroyed at BNN Cawang, East Jakarta.

"The destruction for the second time this year has succeeded in saving one million people from potential drug abuse," he said in a statement.

The drugs were seized in North Sumatra, Banten, Riau and Tangerang following the arrest of 15 suspects suspected of being involved in a network of domestic and international drug syndicates.

"BNN arrested three suspects along with 37.42 kilogrammes of syabu in Riau following information about drug smuggling from Malaysia to Indonesia through the waters of Dumai," said Wayan.

On Jan 18, BNN destroyed 222,697 kilogrammes of cannabis-type drugs.
