Japanese goods will not be able to enter Turkey from every customs gate

ANKARA (A.A) - 24.03.2011 - Turkish State Minister Hayati Yazici said Thursday that products to be imported from Japan would not be able to enter Turkey from every customs gate.
Speaking to the AA on Thursday, Yazici said that Japanese products could enter Turkey only through 12 sea and air border gates that had infrastructure for radiation security.
According to Yazici, Japanese imports could enter Turkey through Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, Esenboga Airport in Ankara, and seaports at Ambarli, Haydarpasa, Izmir, Gebze, Izmit, Derince, Dilovasi, Gemlik and Mersin.
We have taken additional measures at Turkish customs gates so that Japanese products coming into Turkey do not pose health risks to humans and their surroundings, Yazici said.
So far, we have not detected any radiation on products coming from Japan, Yazici added.
Turkey's decision on Japanese products came after a powerful earthquake that hit Japan recently and led to the partial destruction of several nuclear power plants causing concerns for the spread of radiation.
