"Legacy - FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022" Launched At Qatar National Library

 
Doha, March 21 (QNA) - Qatar National Library (QNL) on Tuesday hosted the launch ceremony of the book /Legacy - FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022/, by HE Dr. Sheikh Thani bin Ali bin Saud Al-Thani. HE Minister of State and President of QNL Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari said in a speech during the ceremony that hosting the tournament and the success in organizing it will remain an honorable legacy that inspires the coming generations to be proud of their past and plan to build their future. His Excellency viewed the book as a praiseworthy cultural initiative that enriches the Arabic library, and documents the exceptional and unique event experienced by Qatar and the Arab nation. "It was a turning point in improving the world's view and respect for us as an accomplished nation capable of facing challenges," he said. The President of Qatar National Library appreciated the initiative of HE Dr. Sheikh Thani bin Ali Al-Thani to issue this book, given that it emphasizes the importance of spreading the culture of documentation in our society. "We need documentation and building a wide archive as well, because historical memory requires the existence of this archive, as through it the individual, as well as institutions, can transform memory into an active force in the present." he added. His Excellency said: "What we need today, and in order to invest all these gains, is to document all the events of the World Cup with all its sporting, social, economic and cultural aspects, so that the World Cup blog would be a source of inspiration for the coming generations as well as a national, Arab and international experience that can be used in the future of international relations. For his part, HE Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr. Mohammad bin Saif Al Kuwari, said in his speech that the ten years that preceded FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, saw profound legal as well as urban transformations in the country, asserting that the NHRC is a witness to these transformations, especially in the aspects related to the reforming human rights and workers' rights. He pointed out that the NHRC was the watchful eye, monitor and trustee of the human rights situation in the State of Qatar. The Deputy Chairman of NHRC congratulated the author on the valuable book, in which he outlined the landmarks that highlight the legacy and impact created through hosting the tournament, calling on scholars and researchers to expand on monitoring these transformations, especially in the legal aspects. The book author, HE Dr. Sheikh Thani bin Ali bin Saud Al-Thani said in his speech at the ceremony: "We are not really celebrating the launch of a book, but rather the success of the State of Qatar in organizing the first Arab version of the World Cup, as the tournament left us with a legacy of pride and achievements in all aspects of life." His Excellency revealed that a number of ambassadors of the countries that participated in the World Cup contributed to writing the book. "We published quotes for them in which they expressed their contemplation-worthy impressions and opinions about the tournament. As for the introduction to the book, it was written by HE Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, who wrote an article worth reading and contemplating because it contains a deep insight into the World Cup legacy for the State of Qatar. HE Dr. Sheikh Thani bin Ali bin Saud Al-Thani thanked Mwani Qatar, the official sponsor of the book, and said that it was "a fundamental pillar in the country's success in hosting the World Cup." He also thanked the National Human Rights Committee, which contributed to formulating and reforming human rights laws. (QNA)
