"Don Quixote" to be staged

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National Academic Drama Theater is planning to perform “Don Quixote”, a non-musical play inspired by Miguel de Cervantes' seventeenth century masterpiece, on November 8. Mongolian theater lovers will see the play the first time here in a long-desired staging by B.Baatar. The play follows the adventures of Alonso Quijano, who reads so many chivalric novels that he decides to set out to revive chivalry, under the name Don Quixote. He recruits a simple farmer, Sancho Panza, as his assistant, who often employs a unique, earthly wit in dealing with Don Quixote's rhetorical speech on antiquated knighthood. Cervantes' book is considered the most influential work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age and the entire Spanish literary canon. As a founding work of modern Western literature and one of the earliest canonical novels, it regularly appears high on lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published. Don Quixote of La Mancha was translated by T.Jambal into Mongolian in 1970.
