KANGAR (Perlis, Malaysia), Nov 7 (Bernama) -- A participant of the Women's Boat To Gaza (WBTG), Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan, said Malaysian women should emulate the persistence of Palestinian women in looking for perfection in life.
Despite the various hardship, she said, the Palestinian women were never dismayed nor did they ever give up or ensuring their children received education, even having to send them to schools which had been destroyed by bombs.
"Their perseverance in facing the way with the Jews paid off with many Palestinian youths becoming intellectuals, She told Bernama after a session on sharing the WBTG experience at the Alwi Mosque here Sunday.
Dr Fauziah and her husband, Prof Dr Alauddin Mohd Ali, and another WBTG member, Norsham Abu Bakar, were panel members of the programme jointly organised by Rose 2 Rose, WBTG, MyCare, Aqsa Syarif, Ikram, Perlis Islamic Religious Department (JAIPs), Perlis Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) and the mosque.
Dr Fauziah, who has entered Gaza twice, in 2012 and 2014, to hand over humanitarian aid, said she was able to witness how the Palestinian people, especially women, making various efforts to ensure their survival.
There are about two million people in Gaza whose life are miserable because of the Israeli atrocities, she added.
She said since the past six years, MyCare had contributed a total of US$17.84 million (RM75 million) to the people of Gaza, including as business capital, to carry out farming and for education.
Dr Fauziah, 61, came into the limelight after she and a group of 12 WBTG participants from several countries were captured by the Israeli while they were on board a ship on their way to Gaza.
The incident, which occurred last Oct 5, landed them in jail for one night for trespassing before they were then deported to their respective country of origin.
Despite the incident, Dr Fauziah, who has three children and six grandchildren, said the experience would not dampen her spirit to continue to participate in humanitarian mission to Gaza.
