First Time Ever Vietnamese Food Promotion At Malaysia's Dorsett Grand Labuan
LABUAN (Malaysia), July 24 (Bernama) -- Vietnamese cuisine is gaining popularity and that many well-known chefs in the world have cooked its famous dishes.
And for the first time, Labuan’s only 5-Star hotel, the Dorsett Grand Hotel has flown two Vietnamese international cooks for its week-long Vietnamese popular and traditional delicacies beginning tomorrow (Monday), not only for local diners but also to visitors.
Vietnam’s ingredients reflect its geography and climate, rice (grown in water paddies throughout the country) is the main starch used in everyday meals, and is also made into different kinds of cakes and noodles.
Besides a number of Buddhist vegetarian dishes, most Vietnamese dishes or meals are a combination of a variety of vegetables, herbs and meats.
Common herbs may include lemon grass, lime or kaffir, while popular meats are beef, chicken, prawn, squid and various fish.
Fish sauce and soy sauce are used as both for flavouring and dipping sauces for nearly every dish.
“Beginning Monday, we will be presenting The Pho’licious Vietnamese Cuisine for diners at our Victoria’s Brasseries from the award-winning Vietnam’s renowned young talented chefs,” said Dorsett Grand general manager Susan Carlos during the food promotion media briefing here Sunday.
Popular dishes to be served during the promotion are Bo Nau Pate Voi Tieu Xanh’ (stewed beef with pate and green popcorn); the Vietnamese signature dish of Pho Bo (beef noodle soup), Banh Bap Tom Chien (Prawn Sweet Corn Pritter) and Cha Hap Hanh Va Gung (Steamed Fish with Spring Onion and Ginger) among others.
The Vietnamese cook their food in a variety of ways from deep fry, stir fry, boil and steam.
Unlike the Chinese, the Vietnamese use a minimal amount of oil while cooking. Vietnamese cooks aim to preserve the freshness and natural taste of food as much as possible, hence, Vietnamese cuisines are often considered as one of the healthiest foods in the world.
Labuan, the Pearl of Borneo, is a Federal Territory of Malaysia. It comprise of one large and six smaller islands in East Malaysia.
