Never Tire Of Helping Unfortunate Children, M'sian PM's Wife Advises Charity Bodies

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Rosmah Mansor, wife of the Malaysian prime minister, on Monday advised all charity organisations never to give up having various programmes to prepare physically challenged children to move on to a higher level in life. She said that whatever their condition, society could not neglect the welfare of these special children because they had their advantages, sometimes more profound than ordinary children. "Elevate collaboration with various quarters, regardless of whether it is the government, corporate bodies or individuals, so that they always remain a part of society," she said in her speech at the presentation of Aidilfitri (Eid ul-Fitr) goodies at the Mydin Hypermarket in Subang Jaya near here. The text of Rosmah's speech was read out by Dr Aishah Ong, chairman of the Welfare Committee of the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti). Rosmah said she hoped that parents, teachers and other members of society would not have any mental constraints in educating these children to enable them lead a better life. She said these children should be allowed to play a more comprehensive role to enable them achieve the maximum potential as members of society in contributing towards attaining the objectives of Vision 2020. Rosmah said Bakti had handed over aid amounting to RM10,000 (US$3,220) for distribution to physically challenged children at Community-Based Rehabilitation (PDK) centres registered with the Welfare Department. At the event, Bakti handed over "duit raya" (Raya cash gifts) and clothing to 237 physically challenged children from PDK centres in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Also present at the event was the managing director of Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd, Ameer Ali Mydin. -- BERNAMA
