By TUWAEDANIYA MERINGING
YALA, July 3 (Bernama) -- A sexagenarian man sustained serious injuries after the homemade bomb he accidentally stepped onto exploded at a rubber estate in the Krong Pinang district of Yala province, early Monday.
Krong Pinang District police chief Col Naravi Wae Arong said the victim was identified as Nai Suthin Heawkuntok, 60, who hails from Nakhon Ratchasima.
“His leg was severely injured after he accidentally set his foot on the five-kilogramme bomb,” he said here.
Naravi said the police, who were alerted to on the incident at 7 am (local time), believed that the bomb was planted underground.
This was the fourth of such an incident involving rubber tappers in Southern Thailand.
In the previous incident, a 48-year-old rubber tapper was severely wounded after stepping onto a bomb while at work in the Muang district of Yala province, three days ago.
On the same fateful day, the authorities discovered a homemade bomb at a rubber estate in Kabang, Yaha district here before they detonated it without any injuries.
On June 28, a 34-year-old woman sustained serious injuries in a similar incident while rubber tapping at Kampung Kae in Tachi, Yaha district.
