Mass Movement for Improving Soil Fertility

Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- True to the resolutions of the Seventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea on bringing about radical improvement in agricultural production, organizations of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea (UAWK) at all levels are conducting a dynamic mass movement to improve the fertility of soil.

The Central Committee of the UAWK has pushed ahead with the organizational and political work to instill into the mind of the masses the importance of improving the fertility of soil in attaining the goal of grain production this year and to increase the land fertility.

UAWK organizations in Pyongyang City give priority to the ideological mobilization of their members and tap all sources of manure and, at the same time, conduct the work of removing stones in farm fields and carpeting them with humus soil.

The South Hwanghae Provincial Committee of the union organized the socialist emulation among cities, counties, farms, workteams and sub-workteams and has widely introduced and generalized the successes made through the review of emulation, thus stimulating its members' enthusiasm for emulation and production.

Officials and members of the union in Sinpho City, Pukchong and Riwon counties of South Hamgyong Province are carrying out the work to turn low-yielding fields into fertile fields on the basis of experience and lessons gained in the past.

Those in North Hwanghae and South Phyongan provinces, too, have striven to contribute to raising the soil fertility. -0-
