Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns Iranian statements

Manama, Sept. 5 (BNA): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of the statements made by the Spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the conditions of prisoners in Bahrain, which are a clear interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom.

The Ministry underlined that Bahrain has a number of independent national mechanisms with the mandate to monitor human rights in the country.

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC) have conducted unannounced visits to the Reform and Rehabilitation Center to investigate allegations regarding the conditions of inmates.

They reviewed a number of demands made by some inmates and submitted a detailed report to the relevant authorities.

Those recommendations have been responded to positively, based on the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and national human rights mechanisms.
