Mongolia's energy minister calls for cooperation with Turkey
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 15.04.2011 - Mongolia's mineral resources and energy minister has called Turkish businesspeople to make investments in energy, mines and water resources in his country, saying that the government planned to allocate 800 million USD for infrastructure projects in those fields.
"Turkish companies are keen on doing business in the fields of energy, mines and water resources. We can improve our cooperation in these areas," Dashdorj Zorigt on Friday told a meeting of the Turkey-Mongolia Business Council in Istanbul.
Zorigt said Mongolia was rich in mineral resources, which he said made up 25 percent of the country's GDP, adding that production of iron and copper was expected to increase significantly within a few years.
"A major part of the 5 thousand mining licenses are owned by the private sector. Mongolia's mining sector has seen investments worth of two billion USD over the last four years," he said.
Trade volume between Turkey and Mongolia in 2009 amounted to 6 million USD and Turkish investments in the country were wroth of some 50 million USD, Zorigt said.
