Municipalities Minister, UN-Habitat sign MoU

Manama, Feb. 22 (BNA): Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Arab countries and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).
He highlighted that the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, accords special importance to cooperation with UN organizations, with regard to human settlements, in which Bahrain has achieved advanced results.
He was speaking as he and UNHABITAT Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the ministry and the UN-Habitat to support the Kingdom's efforts in sustainable urban development, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to achieve food security for all.
The minister added that the MoU is within the framework of enhancing fruitful cooperation between the two sides, which contributes to enhancing the urban environment in the Kingdom and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
Maimunah Mohd Sharif praised Bahrain's remarkable progress in urban development and stressed keenness to bolster cooperation with the ministry in various programs and fields to achieve sustainable development goals.
