Official Reiterates Importance of Building Industrial Towns at Iran-Turkey Borders
TEHRAN, April 17 (FNA)- Building industrial towns at Iran-Turkey shared borders plays a major role in boosting the two countries' bilateral relations, Governor-General of Iran's Northwestern province of West Azarbaijan Vahid Jalalzadeh said in a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Umit Yardim on Saturday.
"Building industrial towns constitutes one of the most important issues in the bilateral ties between Iran and Turkey," Jalalzadeh said.
He also called on officials and governor-generals of Iranian and Turkish border provinces to take the necessary measures to provide the grounds for the construction of such industrial towns, reminding that border provinces can also play an important role in increasing the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries.
Reiterating the great effects of increased action by the officials of Iranian and Turkish border provinces in boosting the two countries' trade exchanges, Jalalzadeh reminded that a major part of trade exchanges between the two sides takes place through road and railroad connections, saying, "According to the statistical figures available, $5.5bln of $10bln of trade exchanges between Iran and Turkey are made via road and railroad connections."
Iran and Turkey have in recent years increased their cooperation in all the various fields of economy, security, trade, education, energy and culture.
The two sides have exchanged several politico-economic delegations during the last few months.
Earlier in February, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul that Iran was determined to increase the value of annual trade ties with Turkey to $30bln.
He said that the value of Iran's trade ties with Turkey surpassed $10bln last year and noted that the two countries have the capabilities to upgrade their trade to $30bln.
