‘Iran has received verbal invitation to Geneva meeting on Syria’

TEHRAN,June 1(MNA) – A Foreign Ministry official said that Iran has been invited to the Geneva meeting “verbally”. “We are invited (to the Geneva conference) verbally, but we have not received any written invitation yet,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told reporters on the sidelines of the Friends of Syria conference in Tehran on Wednesday. “After receiving a written invitation... we will decide on attending the conference,” Amir-Abdollahian said. Given the focus on a political solution to the Syrian crisis by the Geneva II, Tehran will evaluate any invitation with a positive approach, he added. The proposed conference to try to end two years of conflict in Syria could take place over the weekend of June 15-16 in Geneva, diplomatic sources said on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.
