‘Khatami suggested Mousavi write to Leader’
TEHRAN,Jan.8(MNA) – Hojjatoleslam Hossein Ebrahimi, a member of the central council of the principlist Combatant Clergy Association, said that former president Mohammad Khatami suggested Mir-Hossein Mousavi write to the Supreme Leader after the 2009 presidential election.
After the 2009 presidential election, Mousavi, who unsuccessfully ran for president, insisted that the election had been rigged and issued statements calling for protest rallies.
Ebrahimi, who formerly served as deputy chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks in an interview with the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency published on Monday.
Ebrahimi said, “In our country, we do not know anyone but (Mahdi) Karroubi and Mousavi who organized sedition and incited street riots.”
“Khatami suggested Mousavi write a letter to the Supreme Leader and accept any solution proposed by him, but Mousavi rejected the suggestion,” he said.
Commenting on the 2013 presidential election, the cleric said the enemy is always seeking to undermine and hatch plots against the Islamic system, adding that elections provide the enemy with an opportunity to implement its plans.
“Ahead of the eleventh presidential election, signs and indications like the post-election sedition in 2009 can be observed, so we can deal with next seditions and block internal and foreign-based seditionists’ way through learning lessons from unpleasant past incidents,” he added.
