‘National Confidence party to resume activities’

TEHRAN,July 27(MNA) – After four years since the disputed 2009 presidential election the National Confidence Party plans to resume its activities, a member of the party’s central committee said. “Until the end of the year we intend to hold party sessions and increase the political activities of the party,” Mohammad Javad Haqshenas told the Mehr News Agency in an interview published on Thursday. The Iranian calendar year ends on March 20, 2014. So far there has been no legal ban on the party but there were some hurdles which practically made any activities impossible, he explained. NCP Secretary General Mehdi Karroubi, a candidate in the 2009 presidential election, made a claim of election fraud and this led to the closure of the party’s office and its newspaper the National Confidence. However, a year later the judiciary allowed the party to resume work. Haqshenas also said until now there has been no decision to replace the party chief. He said after the June 14 presidential election, which centrist candidate Hassan Rohani won an outright victory, the party held its first session and most members of the party’s central committee believed that they should resume their activities. NCP will fully support Rohani Haqshenas also said the NCP will spare no effort to support Hassan Rohani’s administration, however, this “does not mean that reformists are seeking a share in his government”. The senior member of the NCP party also said 250 parties have been registered by the commission of parties, adding that the issue of parties has been spoiled. “We need inclusive parties with the inclusion of important figures,” he opined.
