20th AU Summit Opens In Ethiopia, Iran FM Attends

Addis Ababa, Jan 27, IRNA – The 20th African Union (AU) Summit kicked of here Sunday in Ethiopia attended by Iranˈs Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi as an observer member. Leaders and officials from 54 AU member states as well as representatives of a number of international bodies are present in the two-day event. This summit, enjoying the theme ˈPan-Africanism and African Renaissanceˈ, is to discuss important issues related to Africa and the AU as well as the latest global developments. African Union, established in 2002, is the successor to the Organization of African Unity launched in 1963. The Islamic Republic of Iranˈs presence is important as Tehran is the current president of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)./end
