Abe says looking forward to meeting Putin in June
MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Tuesday he hopes to see Russian President Vladimir Putin again in June when Osaka will host a Group of Twenty summit.
"A lot of major events will be held this year. Among them are the accession to the throne of Japan’s new emperor and a Group of Twenty summit in Osaka in June. We invite Vladimir to Japan and I am looking forward our next top-level meeting," he said after Tuesday’s talks in the Kremlin.
Touching on the peace treaty problem, Abe admitted that it is a difficult task to find a solution to this problem that has stayed unsettled for more than 70 years. Nevertheless, in his words, "Japan and Russia will develop ties between the defense ministries and border services to create trust in the sphere of security."
He described his talks with the Russian president as a "good start for the Japanese-Russian relations in the new year."
Osaka will host a Group of Twenty summit on June 28-29. G20 ministerial meetings are scheduled for November 22-23 in Nagoya.
