Activist group propose online ballots

BANGKOK, Feb 5 (TNA) -- The Thai Sriwilai activist group today presented the Elections Commission (EC) with a proposal to allow online balloting through mobile phone application for the upcoming general elections which they say will save costs and ensure 100% participation. Representatives from the Thai Sriwilai Group led by Mongkhonkit Suksintharanon today formally handed the high-tech ballot proposal to a EC representative Polawat Piratichaithanakul. Mr Mongkhonkitti stated that the public can cast their ballots electronically over mobile phones and tablets with the use Apps. To do so they must register their 13 digit personal IDs backed up by a special password and fingerprint scans or facial recognition software 15 days prior to the actual day of general elections. According to Thai Sriwilai electronic ballots will cost at most 3 billion baht which is way cheaper than the 5.8 billion baht budgeted for traditional ballots.(TNA)
