Ahmadinejad dismisses rumors he supports Jalili in presidential election

TEHRAN,June 12(MNA) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has squelched the rumors that he supports principlist candidate Saeed Jalili in the presidential election, saying he does not support any particular candidate.
“Reports published in this regard are not true and… I have one vote, which only I myself know about,” he told reporters on Tuesday in the city of Hamidieh, Khuzestan Province.
He added, “I am the servant of the nation and support none of the people in the election scene.”
Iran’s presidential election will be held on Friday. Political analysts say the election will almost certainly go to a runoff.
Bahman Sharifzadeh, an Ahmadinejad ally, told the Mehr News Agency on Tuesday that the Ahmadinejad administration would not support any particular presidential candidate.
“Since all candidates do not have plans, and instead of presenting plans constantly criticize the government, we do not see any need to support anybody,” Sharifzadeh said.
However, he stated that this does not mean that government officials will not take part in the election and added that they will vote for the candidate who criticized the government less than the others.
