Asian-African Conference stamp to be launched on April 24

Bandung, W Java, April 16 (Antara) - Stamps of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) will be launched at the summit in Bandung, West Java, on April 24. "Stamps of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the AAC will be launched at Merdeka Building, and the first day envelope will be signed by the president," the philatelic manager of Pos Indonesia, the state-owned postal company, Tata Sugiarta, said here on Thursday. He added that the first day envelope will display five figures from Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, who were the initiators of the first conference in 1955. Only 14,000 copies of the first day envelope will be printed. It is being limited as the event is rare and full of historical value. "A stamp of the AAC commemoration is always issued. This time, we will display figures from the countries that initiated the event in 1955," Sugiarta affirmed. In addition, the Philately Division will also hold an exhibition of stamps from the 29 countries that participated in AAC 1955. They will be on display at the Post Office of Bandung from April 20 to 24. The exhibition titled "Asian-African Stamps" will showcase historic stamps from the 29 nations that participated in AAC 1955. The office cooperated with the philatelic communities of these countries. Furthermore, a mosaic of President Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia, will also be made in the exhibition arena. "The mosaic will be made from April 21 to 24, and the mayor of Bandung will be the first to affix a stamp," Sugiarta noted, adding that 10,000 stamps will be used to make the mosaic. People visiting the exhibition will be required to add stamps to the mosaic of Sukarno.
