Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan discuss military cooperation

Baku, April 21 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan's Defense Minister Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov has met his Kazakh counterpart Serik Akhmetov. Prior to the meeting, the Kazakh Minister visited the Alley of Honors to lay flowers at the tomb of national leader, founder and architect of modern Azerbaijani state Heydar Aliyev. They also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva. The delegation then visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country’s independence and territorial integrity. He laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument. Addressing the meeting, Minister Zakir Hasanov hailed what the two countries had done to strengthen the cooperation in the military, military-technical and military-educational fields. They also discussed regional security issues. On the military-political situation in the region, Hasanov said the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was the main danger to the regional stability. He also stressed the importance of solving the conflict on the basis of the norms of international law. Serik Akhmetov, in turn, highlighted relations of both states, which based on strong friendship and brotherhood. Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Amangeldi Jumabayev was also present at the meeting.
