Belgian police investigate vandal attack on monument to great Azerbaijani poetess in Waterloo

Baku, March 11, AZERTAC The Belgian police have launched an investigation after a monument to great Azerbaijani poetess Natavan was vandalized in the city of Waterloo, according to Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry. "The police in the city of Waterloo began a criminal case after vandals attacked the monument to Khurshidbanu Natavan, outstanding Azerbaijani poetess, daughter of Karabakh khan. Erected in 2016, the monument is on the list of the protected historical monuments in Waterloo," said Leyla Abdullayeva, spokesperson for the ministry. She said what attracted attention was that the act of vandalism happened during the Armenian prime minister`s visit to Belgium. "The staff of Azerbaijan`s Embassy in Belgium immediately arrived at the scene and contacted local authorities. The issue is under the Embassy`s control. The public will be informed about the results of the investigation,” Abdullayeva added.
