BN Youth Memo to UN Over Rohingya Issue

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) – The ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional (BN), Youth wing Friday urged the United Nations to take immediate action with regard to what it referred to as the escalating humanitarian crisis faced by the Rohingya in Myanmar. BN Youth deputy chief Senator Khairul Azwan Harun said the UN should hold an emergency special session to come up with urgent recommendations to address the humanitarian plight of the Rohingya in Rakhine State in Myanmar and permanently resolve the issue. "We want the UN to establish a peacekeeping operation in Rakhine State with the purpose of urgently restoring peace and security, especially to facilitate the immediate flow of aid for the Rohingya," he told reporters after handing over a memorandum of demand to the UN Resident Coordinator, Stefan Priesner, at Wisma UN here Friday. Khairul Azwan said BN Youth believed that the UN would be able to take action immediately in the matter. -- BERNAMA
