Cabinet approves Tokyo Strategy 2018
BANGKOK, Oct 3 (TNA) -- The cabinet endorsed the Tokyo Strategy 2018 for Mekong-Japan Cooperation as Japan will host a summit on the cooperation on Oct 8-9.
Col Athisit Chaiyanuwat, assistant government spokesman, said the Tokyo Strategy concerned the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit that Japan would host in Tokyo and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha would attend it.
The summit would acknowledge the strategy but participants would not sign it.
The strategy focused on the implementation of the five-year ACMECS Master Plan (2019-2023), the Indo-Pacific Strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, he said.
The Mekong-Japan Cooperation emphasizes three areas: environmental management, the development of physical, regulatory and industrial connectivity, and the creation of a people-centered community that would work on human resource development, public health promotion, education and the rule of law, Col Athisit said.
Earlier the Foreign Ministry found that the Tokyo Strategy 2018 for Mekong-Japan Cooperation was a document that expressed a political intention to promote cooperation between Japan and countries in the Mekong River Basin and it would not cause any obligation under any foreign law. The ministry proposed the cabinet endorse it. (TNA)
