Cabinet to submit redraft of firearms law

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Cabinet of the Government Saturday decided to submit a redraft of the law on firearms to the State Great Khural (parliament). The currently valid 2001 law on firearms regulates all relations relevant to firearms ownership, acquisition, and disposition except for those occupied by the armed forces, army, intelligence agency and court decision implementation authority. Nationwide, Mongolia registered 40,894 firearms in 2010, 43,768 in 2011, and the number continued to increase into 44,764 in 2012; observing an annual average increase of 2,000 in the firearms acquisition. Witnessing a potential increase in the number of firearms ownership, the Cabinet considered a need of some change in the current law.
