Chief advisor to Turkish premier says Turkey focused on ceasefire in Libya

WASHINGTON (A.A) - 13.04.2011 - Chief advisor to the Turish premier has said Turkey's primary objective in its efforts over Libya was to secure a ceasefire to end the bloodshed in what he described as "an urgent situation that cannot be left on its own."
"Turkey is exerting efforts to maintain an immediate ceasefire in Libya. But it is the Libyans who determine what course the change in the country will take," Ibrahim Kalin told a panel discussion held as part of the U.S.-Arab World Forum in Washington.
Kalin said Turkey was focused on securing ways to allow a peaceful transition in Libya, adding that the country might otherwise face either a prolonged civil war or it might split up.
"An immediate and an effective ceasefire, a corridor for the humanitarian aid and a political process for a peaceful transition are what Libya needs. This is also the official position of Turkey," Kalin said.
