Commemorative events for Thailand's May 1992 political bloodshed set in mid-May

BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) - The Phruetsapha Prachatham Foundation will organise commemorative events for the 20th anniversary of Thailand's May 1992 political bloodshed, also called the "Black May", in mid-May. Prinya Thewanarumitkul, Vice Rector of Thammasat University, said Monday that the events will be held at the Santiporn Phruetsapha Prachatham Memorial Park, next to the Government Lottery Office in Bangkok, from May 17-18. The events include the laying of flower garlands and commemorative speeches in honour of the self-sacrificing heroes and heroines by leaders and representatives of various agencies, such as the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Ministry of Interior and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), as well as music concerts and other shows. Regarding to the construction of the delayed "Black May Monument" in honour of the heroes and heroines, Prinya acknowledged that the construction will start immediately once the official Rattanakosin Island Committee grants its consent, and that the construction project, funded by a state budget of some 25 million baht, is expected to be complete within two years.
