Couple Shot Dead, Nephew Seriously Injured In Pattani

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa PATTANI (Thailand), Oct 25 (Bernama) -- A couple believed to be in their 40s were gunned down by unidentified assailants at their shop in the restive southern Thailand region on Monday. Pattani acting police chief Col. Piyawat Chalermsi said the incident which occurred at about 3pm (local time) saw Somprasong Jindamaneepol and his wife, Tassanee shot dead by the assailants. "Authorities believe two suspects posing as buyers entered the store and shot the victims from close range," he said here, Monday. According to him, the couple's nephew Yupdee Se-wong, in his 20s was seriously injured after being shot by one of the assailants. The victim was sent to the Nongchik Hospital before being transferred to the Pattani Provincial Hospital, he said, adding that police were investigating the motive for the murder. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a bomb targeting a vehicle carrying rangers had detonated, however, no members of the security force were injured. According to a spokesman for the security forces, the incident which occurred in Klongmai, Yarang, at about 9.30am (local time) caused extensive damage to the military vehicle. --BERNAMA
