Daily Telegraph apologizes to Turkish PM Erdogan over a eronious news story
LONDON (A.A) - 01.03.2011 - British Daily Telegraph newspaper Tuesday apologized to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for a news story published on September 15, 2010 and that alleged that Iran had made donations to Turkey's Justice and Development (AK) Party.
Daily Telegraph's apology was published on Tuesday on page 16 and said:
We had published wrong statements in a news story on September 15, 2010 alleging that Erdogan's AK Party received a donation of 25 million USD from Iran for an election campaign. We admit that we were briefed wrong and our allegation was not accurate. Neither Erdogan nor his political party (AK Party) reached any agreement with Iran and accepted donations from Iran. We apologize to Erdogan.
Sources said that Prime Minister Erdogan's litigation against the Daily Telegraph over the news story was in the process and that, with the Daily Telegraph's apology, the case may end.
