Davutoglu said Turkey, Greece cannot overcome confidence problem if status quo is maintained

ATHENS (A.A) - 08.03.2011 - Turkey's foreign minister said on Tuesday that it would be difficult for Turkey and Greece to overcome confidence problem if status quo was maintained.
Ahmet Davutoglu said therefore, Turkey wanted the status quo to be changed in a positive way.
"We want the two countries to establish a new cooperation framework," Davutoglu told reporters on his way to Athens, Greece.
Davutoglu said executives were trying to set up a new paradigm between the two countries, however there were some complicated problems like the Aegean dispute due to prejudices.
Two countries should solve those problems with patience, step by step and in a determined way, he said.
Davutoglu said the Greek executives also had a new approach towards relations with Turkey, and Turkey was determined to make best use of that atmosphere.
The Turkish minister said the positions of Turkey and Greece regarding Cyprus issue were certain, and two countries were aware of their differences of opinion.
"It is obvious that it will be difficult to make progress by not changing the differences of opinion," he said.
Davutoglu also said Turkey hoped to make progress by talking.
Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will meet Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and Greek Foreign Minister Dimitrios Droutsas later on Tuesday and discuss bilateral relations.
Davutoglu will meet intellectuals and journalists.
On Wednesday, Davutoglu will visit Komotini, Xanthi, Kavala, and Thessaloniki.
