Defense minister: Turkey is not going to a war in Libya

ANKARA (A.A) - 29.03.2011 - Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said that Turkey was not going to a war in Libya.
Turkey would undertake a controlling mission under NATO in Libya, added Gonul who spoke to reporters at Parliament on Tuesday.
Noting that Turkey's mission would be like the mission of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, Gonul said that the aim was to settle order in Libya.
Six ships will be on mission in this operation and there won't be a deployment of infantries. Our mission zones are clear, and Izmir (Turkish western province) will be a control center, not a base, Gonul said.
Turkish parliament adopted on March 24 a prime ministry motion envisaging to send troops to foreign countries in order to contribute to international efforts aiming at establishing stability and security in Libya.
The turmoil in Libya began on February 15, and the UN Security Council adopted two resolutions on February 26 and March 17 in order to end the violence in the country.
Acceptance of prime ministry motion on Turkey's contribution to NATO mission in Libya is the 31st time the parliament decided to send troops overseas in the country's history.
