Deputy FM meets UN Human rights High commissioner

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Deputy Foreign Minister D.Gankhuyag Monday met with UN Human Rights High Commissioner Ms Navi Pillay. The meeting came about during the 25th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva. Mr Gankhuyag highlighted Mongolia’s standing for election to UNHRC tenure 2016-2018, and noted its aspiration as to firmly cooperate with UN and its affiliated organizations to make contributions to promotion of global human rights, rule of law and democracy. He thanked the High Commissioner for her participation in a high-level panel discussion on moratorium on the question of the death penalty co-hosted by Mongolia together with France, Costa Rica, Benin and Moldova. During the meeting, the Deputy Minister announced a decision of the Government of Mongolia to make involuntary financial donation to Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), as a real contribution to its activities. Highlighting that Mongolia sets a true example for the regional countries in making great efforts to protect human rights and promote democracy, Ms Pillay confirmed that OHCHR is ready to further cooperate with Mongolia.
