Draft amendment to law on National Great Festival submitted

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On Monday, R.Gonchigdorj MP submitted to the Speaker of parliament Z.Enkhbold a draft amendment to the law on National Great Festival (NGF or Naadam). The MP wants to abolish the awarding of the national wrestling’s "Ocean Giant of Nation" champion title. In accordance with the current law, passed in 2003, the champion title of national wrestling goes to a wrestler who wins twice in the NGF, the "Ocean Giant of Nation"--to a wrestler who wins three times, a title of Wide Giant of Nation--to those with four wins; and a title Undefeatable Giant of Nation--to those with five or more wins. Due to severe competitiveness in the Naadam's national wrestling tournaments, the chances to win the Undefeatable Giant of Nation has become much limited, the MP explained a reason of his draft. The national wrestling is one of the kinds of the Three Manly Games of Mongolians alongside horse race and archery.
