Egyptian president eager to attend NAM summit in Tehran

TEHRAN,Aug.11(MNA) – Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi said that he is keen to attend the Non-Aligned Movement summit, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran from August 26 to 31, according to a spokesman for the summit.
“Morsi has expressed his readiness to take part in the 16th Non-Aligned Movement summit, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran in the month of Shahrivar (August 22-September 21), and he will officially announce his decision in the near future,” Mohammad Reza Forqani said on Thursday.
Iranian Vice President Hamid Baqaii, accompanied by Forqani, travelled to Cairo on Wednesday and met with the Egyptian president.
In the meeting, Baqaii presented a letter from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Morsi inviting him to attend the NAM summit in Tehran, Forqani said.
He also said that the two sides explored ways of expanding relations between Iran and Egypt.
Morsi also described the Iranian delegation’s visit to Egypt at this juncture as highly important and expressed hope that the visit would be a starting point for the expansion of relations between the two countries, he added.
