Election was a victory for moderation: Iran`s Rohani

TEHRAN,June 17(MNA)– In a message issued on Saturday, newly elected Iranian President Hassan Rohani said that the outcome of Friday’s presidential election was the victory of moderation. Centrist Hassan Rohani was declared the winner of the presidential election on Saturday. He received 50.71 percent of the vote. “This victory is a victory of wisdom, a victory of moderation, a victory of growth and awareness, and a victory of commitment and religiosity over extremism and unethical practices,” Rohani said in his message. He also hailed the Iranian people’s effective and meaningful participation in the election and said that undoubtedly, the Iranian people, who perceptively, calmly, hopefully, and through reliance on God and confidence in the system of religious democracy took a major step on the path of dignity, national interests, and management based on moderation, reform, and prudence, were the winners of the election. Elsewhere in his remarks, Rohani thanked the Supreme Leader who bravely and prudently lifted the people’s spirits. He also highlighted the valuable roles of former president Mohammad Khatami and Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in creating a surge of excitement among the people. In addition, he said that the people’s glorious presence on the political scene heralded calm, stability, and hope in the economic arena, adding that he would make every effort to fulfill his election pledges. Addressing the international community, Rohani said that those countries that truly advocated democracy, interaction, and free speech should respect the Islamic Republic of Iran’s rights and speak in a tone of respect and fairness with the great Iranian nation in order to receive a proper response. He also called on all countries to try to expand their relations based on mutual interests in order to promote the peace and security of the world.
