Enemies’ threats show might of Islamic system: Supreme Leader

TEHRAN, April 5 (MNA) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the enemies’ threats against Iran indicate the might of the Islamic system. The Leader made the remarks in Tehran on Wednesday during a speech at a meeting with a number of military commanders and officials at offices of the his representatives. “A multitude of threats show the might of the Islamic system because if the Islamic Republic had not been highly influential and powerful, ill-wishers of the Iranian nation would have not been clutching at straws so frantically,” he stated. Ayatollah Khamenei also commented on the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war and said, “In those eight years, in fact all the world powers in the East and the West and the countries dependent on them confronted the Islamic Republic of Iran and supplied the Baathist regime of Iraq with the most advanced equipment.” “Those Western countries which are self-proclaimed advocates of human rights and democracy did not even deny chemical weapons to the Baathist regime of Iraq in an attempt to bring the Islamic system and the Iranian people to their knees,” he said, adding , “Despite these efforts and supports, the powers could not bring the Islamic Republic of Iran to its knees.” In addition, the Leader said, “The Iranian people, who have valuable experiences like the Islamic Revolution and the Sacred Defense (1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war) and who are currently in a good position, will definitely pass through this juncture with honor.”
