Envoy Urges UN To Stop Muslim Massacre In Myanmar

New York, July 21, IRNA – Iran Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei, in a letter to the UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon, called for prompt action of the international body to stop massacre of Muslims in Myanmar.
In the letter, Khazaei expressed concern over Myanmar Muslims situation and called for serious and decisive action of the UN to support them.
The Iranian envoy has also sent a copy of his letter to representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Navi Pillay and in Charge of Humanitarian Affairs Ms. Valerie Amos.
He also expressed deeply concerned over statements of a number of senior officials of Myanmar that Muslims have no rights of citizenship, while they are living in the region for many centuries.
Khazaei underlined that the UN should take prompt action in direction of maintaining and implementing the UN Charter and support Muslim people of Myanmar.
He said secretary general is expected to act firmly to stop disastrous measures in Myanmar.
The envoy added that, undoubtedly, silence of international community about situation in Myanmar will be severe violation of Muslims basic rights and international laws and will be a dangerous trend in the international relations.
He expressed hope that Myanmar government would response positively to international community concerns, so the Muslims can return to their homes with security and respect./end
