Ex-UN chief, former Finnish leader to support Thailand's reconciliation process
BANGKOK, February 18 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has asked former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan and former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari to share their experiences to support national reconciliation process in Thailand.
The former UN chief and the former Finnish president are in Bangkok to discuss national reconciliation strategies with the Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand (TRCT) set up by the former Democrat Party-led government after a domestic political unrest in 2010 which led to over 90 deaths.
A TRCT member, Kittipong Kittayarak, led the two internationally-recognized leaders to meet Premier Yingluck at Bangkok's Government House on Friday, during which Yingluck expressed hopes for their participation in helping resolve divisions in the Thai society and contribution to the TRCT’s tasks.
Both the former UN and Finnish leaders suggested that any society will achieve reconciliation only with participation of all parties. (TNA)
