FAO Regional Conference kicks off here

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 32nd Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific began in the Tuushin Hotel on Monday in the UB city. Opening the conference, the Industry and Agriculture Minister Kh.Battulga delivered a speech. Hosted by this Ministry, the conference will focus on the opportunities and challenges in the region and priority areas of work to improve food security and nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, raise the standards of living in rural populations and contribute to sustainable economic growth. The gathered will also discuss the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals target to reduce hunger by half in 1990-2015. Agriculture ministers from over 40 countries are attending the event, together with representatives from international non-governmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, United Nations organizations, civil society and the media as invited observers. FAO Director-General, Jose Graziano da Silva is also attending the conference that will continue until this Friday.
