Flames of Islamic Awakening cannot be extinguished: Iranian FM

TEHRAN, June 6 (MNA) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that the Islamic Awakening movement currently unfolding in the Arab world cannot be contained.
Salehi made the remarks in a message sent to a conference on the Islamic Awakening and the late Imam Khomeini’s movement, which was held at the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Institute for Political and International Studies on Tuesday.
The conference was held two days after the 23rd anniversary of the death of the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic.
In his message, Salehi wrote that the “greatest achievement” of the developments occurring in certain Arab countries is the fact that the “U.S. and Western plots in the region” have been foiled.
He stated, “The reality is that these developments are not small flames that can be extinguished, but rather they are a devastating storm of public demands in the Arab world, which have their roots in Islamic beliefs and the model of Iran’s revolution.”
On the situation of the Zionist regime, Salehi said, “We are witnessing that the foundations of the occupying regime are now more shaky than at any other time, and the hegemonistic powers’ pipe dream of the establishment of a Greater Middle East has not come true.”
The Iranian foreign minister added, “The awakened people in the region are seeking emancipation from authoritarianism, corruption, and subservience to the United States and the Zionist regime. And the countries that are seeking to establish global domination should be aware that they will not be able to influence the future of people in pursuit of freedom and justice in their own favor.”
