FM: All Should Get United In Opposing Extremism

Tehran, Jan 7, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif says hardline groups pursue own political goals and resort to religious claims, so it is necessary for all to get united in opposing extremism. Zarif told outgoing Tunisian Ambassador to Tehran Khaled Zitouni that the extremist moves inside and outside the world of Islam have posed major dangers and unfortunately similar moves are now seen in Syria and Iraq. He noted that recent movements by extremist groups in Iraq showed that they do not differentiate between Shiias and Sunnis. He added that Iran attaches high importance to Tunisia as flag bearer of development movement. ˈThe Islamic Republic of Iran seriously seeks to expand relations with Tunisia.ˈ Zitouni, for his part, stressed the need for expansion of bilateral ties in economic and cultural areas, hoping that through joint commission sessions, Tehran-Tunisia relations will further expand./end
