FM briefs foreign envoys on Thailand's updated situation

BANGKOK, Feb 3 (TNA) - Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul has briefed Thailand's updated situation to diplomats of foreign economies which have maintained their travel alert against the Kingdom over feared terror threats. Jesda Katavetin , Deputy Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, told journalists that, in a latest move, the Thai foreign minister invited ambassadors of seven European economies, including Austria, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Sweden and the United Kingdom, for a luncheon on Thursday to brief them on the country's updated situation. Jesda said the seven European economies are among 12 foreign economies which have maintained their travel alerts against Thailand. The remaining five economies include Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The senior Thai foreign ministry official insisted that all the 12 economies are now satisfied with Thai authorities' approaches toward the national situation. The US Embassy in Bangkok issued a statement on its website in early December 2011, warning of possible terror attacks in Thailand, prompting nearly 20 other economies to followed suit. The US Embassy in Bangkok later removed the written warning from its website. (TNA)
